Le Lieu is first and foremost an association and exhibition space dedicated to contemporary photography. You can find us at the Hôtel Gabriel in Lorient.
Our association was created in 1979. From 1981, we organise Les Rencontres Photographiques as well as develop a policy towards photographic creation on the territory. Le Lieu de la Photographie opened in 1989. It’s a space created for discovery, contemplation and gathering between artists and visitors.
Le Lieu stages exhibitions, supports young artists, organises residencies, promotes open-air exhibitions, handles a photographic collection, develops and lends artistic documentation (books and magazines) and offers to work on visual arts awareness.
In a world constantly overwhelmed with images, Le Lieu seeks to raise awareness and form an informed eye. Crafting our approach and gaze as we look at society, we wish to create a free space dedicated to contemplation and expression.
